MEET LIAM
Hi there, I’m Liam Stary (he/him), owner of Stary Graphic Arts!
I’m a San Diego-born, California Bay Area & Hawaii-raised, McMinnville, OR-based graphic artist. I have resided in the bountiful Willamette Valley for over 15 years, where I have delighted in the region’s craft food & beverage scene as well as participated in the vibrant art & music community.
My artistic journey began before memory, when as a very young lad I drew whenever and wherever I could. Some years later, in the moments when my mother was away from her computer, I’d sneak into her office to play around with the earliest version of MacPaint on her 512K Apple Macintosh. I’d spend hours building images with shapes, lines, and patterns, illustrating whatever my imagination brought forth that day. Several decades later, not much has changed!
My early fascination with art followed me to college where I earned a Bachelors degree in Fine Art from UC Santa Cruz in 2002, focusing on Printmaking, Computer Art, and 2-D Mixed Media. Following graduation, I decided my interests leaned toward the practical application of the creative arts, and I began pursuing a career in Graphic Design. I engaged in studies at Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2009, and soon found my work in demand among the community of PNW craft beverage producers. I established my freelance business Stary Graphic Arts in 2011.
My design work draws heavily from my visual arts training, where careful consideration is given to elements such as light/dark contrast, positive/negative space, color combination, symmetry, balance, and stylization. The integration of connotation, metaphor, allegory, and narrative into a work is as significant in graphic design as it is in fine art, and I seek to achieve and convey these components with elegance and consistency.
I’ve conducted freelance work over the years alongside my primary employment roles as a Beer & Wine Buyer and Marketing Assistant/Graphic Artist for LifeSource Natural Foods in Salem, OR from 2010 – 2022 and as a Front-End Web Developer for Digiwoof.com from April 2022 to December 2023.
